Using AI data centers to heat Danish homes and cut carbon

atNorth’s 22.5 MW DEN01 data center near Copenhagen will use direct liquid cooling and export waste heat into the local district heating network, covering more than 8,000 homes from 2028 and cutting carbon for both the site and Vestforbrænding.

This is part of a broader pattern for atNorth: pairing “AI-ready” capacity expansion with heat reuse deals in Denmark and Finland so GPU-heavy workloads don’t just dump thermal load into the air.

For AI infrastructure planners, this link is worth a look as a concrete example of how high-density, AI-focused data centers are being tied into municipal heat and decarbonization policy.
